I use enumeration on Netapp FAS appliance to identify random permission issues. With attached USB drives doing backups I removed all ACLs other than system and the backup account. Most of the premium tier backup packages do this by default along with Windows Server backup. The system account used to execute the backup is the only main user account that has more than read access to the target locations. There's a reason admins by default don't have full control of everybody's home drives. Yes, you'll have some penny loafer wearing VP tyrant who insists he has admin rights to everything on the root of your data drives which then becomes an education issue. Doesn't matter what the account is or if you are using a linux based NAS.
